The Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition will last for 3 days, consist of Solo Group, Ensemble Group and Community Group. Contestants can apply for more than one competition group. The Champion of Solo Open Class will be awarded the NEW Tradition Series Professional Clarinet sponsored by Buffet Crampon.

PRESENTATION CEREMONY

Presentation Ceremony will be held during the Clarinet Master Concert on 8 September 2019 at the Concert Hall of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Details will be announced later.

FAQ

Age of participants shall be calculated as of the date of competition. Example: the participant is 16 years old on the application day (1 June 2019), and will turn 17 on 1 July 2019. He/she will be counted as 17 years old on the competition day (September 2019), and can only attend senior class and open class.

Yes,  please submit by separated application form. The organizer will try to adjust the competition order since the competition of some classes is on same date.

No. The organizer will only provide the piano and participants need to invite and arrange their own pianist/accompanist. Otherwise, he/she will be disqualified.

If the participant is attending solo class of the Junior Division A, he/she can use any clarinet in Bb, C and Eb including wooden or plastic material. For other solo competition classes, please only use Bb clarinet including wooden or plastic material.

Yes, there is free choice with duration limits for the repertoire of the ensemble class and community class. (Please refer to repertoire)

No, the free choice repertoire cannot be changed after submission.

Confirmation email will be sent after submitting all the information required. However, application will only be regarded as completed after the payment is confirmed. If the participant exit the application page before confirming the payment, his/her application will be regarded as incomplete. Participants can enter the form no. stated on the confirmation email on the application page to continue to payment.

The Organizer will inform all participants about the competition venue, date, time etc. via confirmation email before 29 August 2019. We will contact individual participants for necessary information or clarification if needed.

All ensemble members should be within the age range of the specific class.

The organizer will announce the list of finalists right after the preliminary. The organizer will inform the finalists about the final venue, date and time etc via email. List of finalists will also be announced on the competition website.

The organizer will notify the participant to collect the certificate individually after the competition is completed. Details will be announced later.

Yes, the participant may bring along one family member to sit-in the competition. If there is special request, please notify the organizer at least one week before the competition and the organizer reserves the right to refuse the request without explanation.

It is not necessary to play from memory, except the Mozart: Allegro (1st movt from Concerto in A, K.622, Bärenreiter) for solo open class final is required to play from memory.

2 Hours Prior to the Competition*
1) In case of raining or Thunderstorm Warning/ Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal/ Red Rainstorm Warning Signal/ Standby Signal No.1/ Strong Wind Signal No.3 is/are hoisted: The Competition will remain as scheduled
2) In case of Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is hoisted: The Competition will keep on-going if is started already 
3)  In case of No.8 or above Gale or Storm Signal is hoisted: The Competition will be cancelled and further arrangement will be announced later. If the participant cannot attend the rescheduled competition, entry fee will not be refunded.

During the Competition*

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Contestants may enter for more than one class of competition. Please apply by separated application form.
2. Entry forms are deemed invalid if not properly and duly completed or without sufficient supporting materials.
3. Contestant MUST provide their own accompanists during competition, otherwise will be disqualified.
4. Playing from memory is NOT required, except the Mozart Clarinet Concerto for the Open Class Final round.
5. Contestants cannot change the repertoire, or the free choice piece filled on the online application form (if any) without the consent from the organizing committee. Any unauthorized change of repertoire will be disqualified.
6. Contestants MUST bring a set of the original score to the jurors for reference. All scores will be returned after performance.
7. All pieces should be played without repeats, except where for D.C. Da Capo or Dal Segnois states, or where repeat is indicated in the footnotes.
8. During the competition, the jurors panel has the right to terminate a performance when they feel appropriate which will not affect the contestant’s final mark.
9. The organizer reserves the right to disqualify contestants who fail to meet the requirement of the competition or who violate the regulations.
10. Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be granted to the contestants for their achievements:
        - Gold Award (90-100 marks)
        - Silver Award (85-89.99 marks)
        - Bronze Award (75-84.99 marks) 
The number of award winners will be decided by the jurors panel whose decision on the results shall be final. The jurors panel also reserves the right to withhold any award(s) if the performance is not up to the standard.
11. Entry fees are not transferable and refundable.
12. Contestants MUST use the edition as specified or the performance will not be marked.
13. If the contestant’s teacher happens to be one of the jurors (including any private lessons or masterclasses taken before), the juror concerned will not give marks on the contestant’s performance.
14. Score sheets will not be distributed.
15. The organizing committee has the right to cancel the class if there is insufficient number of entrants. The entry fee will be refunded to the entrants concerned under such case.
16. Except the official photographer, it is not allowed to take photos or recordings during the competition. The copyrights of all audio and visual recordings of the competition are deemed the properties of the organizing committee.
17. Rules, regulations, competition schedule, prizes and jurors panel are subject to change without prior notice.
