【2019 Hong Kong Clarinet Festival Highlights】


The 2019 marks a welcome return of this spectacular event with feature-rich programs held between Sept 4-8th . Presented by Tom Lee Music and sponsored by Buffet Crampon, a series of programs such as open masterclass, private teaching lessons, clarinet competition were completed successfully. We are pleased to see that the festival is a great music exchange platform to showcase clarinet enthusiasts their interests and skills.

This year, we are delighted to receive an encouraging number of applicants, due to the expansion of categories for the Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition. The competition serves not just for students but also for amateur clarinet enthusiasts. We are honored to have invited French clarinetists Florent Héau and Jean-Marc Volta, industry delegates/clarinetist/musicians ; Andrew Simon, John Schertle, Michael Campbell, Yiu Song Lam, Dr. Lo Hau Man and Schyler Fung to serve as our jurors. The fabulous prizes for the the winners were - certificate/trophies/ coupons ( depends on competition categories ), and the grand prize for the Open class solo winner has been presented with the new "TRADITION" clarinet sponsored by Buffet Crampon.

The Clarinet Masterclass has been held in good progress. The two French masters, who are both the top-notched professors of music institute at Paris and experienced in giving lessons, the participants and students who received mentoring had benefited a great deal.

The finale Clarinet masters concert is perhaps the best to wrap-up for the whole festival, featuring not only two French acclaimed clarinetists Florent Héau and Jean-Marc Volta performing alongside with local Hong Kong clarinetists, consisting of the Clarinet Masters and Music Office Alumni Clarinet Ensemble, conducted by Martin Choy. Special guest performers from Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra clarinet quartet - Andrew Simon, John Schertle, Lorenzo Iosco & Wai Lau will join in and accompanied by the superb pianist Warren Lee. Lastly, the 20 new generation young clarinetists from local , overseas institutions will share the stage with the group of masters in the mass ensemble to give an iconic performances.

Audiences and performers fully enjoyed the night and the 70 best-in class clarinet players has encompassed a perfect ending to 2019 Hong Kong Clarinet Festival !

We look forward to rerun this spectacular event , with more signature programs again in the very near future.
