*Dream of the Cherry Blossoms* is composed based on an improvisation on the theme of the Japanese folk song "Sakura, Sakura..." This marimba solo captures a realm of fantasy set amidst a landscape of endlessly falling cherry blossoms. The note E serves as a central pitch throughout the piece and—except for the final two bars—must always be played at a constant tempo. The folk song's theme is developed in a more or less fragmentary manner at several points and should always be played deliberately and clearly.
