TAMA began manufacturing drums in 1965 under the name "Star Drums", and Star continues to be used in the names of TAMA's drum models to this day. TAMA were one of the first manufacturers to offer super heavy-duty hardware, and drum mounting systems that did not intrude into the shell. TAMA's drums and hardware are world renowned as among the best available, and they are also well known for the quality and reliability of their drumsticks. TAMA sticks are available in various models and made under strict quality controls using carefully selected woods.
Japanese metal star Yoshiki's signature sticks are made to his specifications from American Hickory which has long been a worldwide favourite material for drumsticks.
